About the program

An internship in Hydro is a great way for you to try out and learn more about your field of study. With support from experienced colleagues, you will be obtaining a valuable experience and you get to tackle relevant tasks and challenges. You will also get to participate in a joint program with all the Hydro interns, allowing you to learn more about our business and acquire interdisciplinary knowledge. All the while, we expect and want you to have a fun experience during the summer.

Area of Responsibility The candidate will be part of the departments extraordinary work with a two-fold focus 1) for commercial activities and new business development diving into performance measurement and setting appropriate performance targets and 2) advanced investment analysis related to business development. We therefore look for a candidate with competencies within the following areas: Strong analytical and modelling skills including investment and profitability analysis Interest for business development analytics Advanced in Excel and relevant analytical support tools Strong foundation in performance measurement and cost of capital theory Hydro is the second largest power producer in Norway and the largest power consumer.   • The Primary Metal business area has a total annual production capacity of about 2.1 million tons of primary aluminium and 1.0 million tons of remelt and recycling capacity. With around 5,000 employees in 17 countries, we produce primary aluminium, recycle and supply our customers with extrusion ingot, sheet ingot, foundry alloys and wire rod. The Aluminum Metal Business System (AMBS) team is a support team working on developing and improving Primary Metal’s business processes.   • In Sunndal, Hydro owns and operates the largest and one of the most modern primary aluminium plants in Europe. Our main products are extrusion ingots and primary foundry alloys which are used extensively in for example the car manufacturing industry. In addition to value added aluminium production, Sunndal is also one of our research and development hubs with extensive expertise in casthouse operations.  Sunndal Carbon and Rodding shop is a raw material supplier for the potrom. We produce anodes with a production line with a paste plant, a furnace and a rodding shop. We are running the factory on a 24/7 basis.   • Logistics is a part of the Commercial business unit and is working as a strategic and operational service provider for key functions within Primary Metal, such as the Product Areas, Strategic Sourcing, and Global Fully Owned Smelters.   • Årdal Carbon produces around 200 000 tonn of anodes per year. Anodes are supplied to Sunndal, Høyanger, Karmøy pilot plant and Årdal electrolysis. Electrolysis operation strongly depends on stable/predictable anode quality.   • The foundry alloy and sheet ingot casthouses in Øvre Årdal produce around 220 000 tons of semi-finished products per year. Foundry alloys are commonly used in car parts such as wheels, engine and suspension parts, and structural components, whereas sheet ingots are used to produce foil, plates for (i) offset-print, (ii) building and construction and (iii) automotive industry. We are working with continues improvement in all production processes on a every day basis, upgrading our operator knowledge base, establishing a pro-active approach increasing the performance of our casthouse.
