Oppgaver : The benefits of connected things (i.e., devices, people and services) are undisputed when it comes to better decision making and improving transparency and efficiency in industry. Industry 4.0 and other similar initiatives are evidence of such widespread realization of this potential. Communication technologies play an important role in this respect. As the new communication technologies are unlocking opportunities along the IoT value chain, industries are creating detailed plans to harness this new potential. As opportunities are growing so are the connectivity challenges. One such challenge is the threat of cyber-attacks on cyber physical systems. In this context, companies are challenged to provide the end users will robust and secure connectivity solutions to prevent cyber-attacks. Traditional solutions such as firewalls are at times not sufficient. Customers often require guaranteed one-way data transfer (from machine to enterprise management software) to avoid any possibility of remote access of equipment or machine. Therefore, data diodes are required to achieve such functionality. This project is about prototyping a transparent data diode solution. The project requires the following: - Research into the state of art in data diode technology- Short listing data diode development platform- Hardware modification to achieve data diode functionality- Programming to ensure one-way data transfer- Proposal to achieve transparent data transfer with little to no configuration (similar to plug-n-play) - Demonstration of working functionality with connectionless protocol (e.g. UDP)- Demonstration of working functionality with connection oriented protocol (e.g. TCP) Krav: We are looking for Bachelor- or Masterstudents with an interest and enthusiasm for any of the topics described, preferably with a profile towards electrical engineering, control systems engineering, cybernetics, industrial design, informatics, computer science, service design or telecomCompetence Required: - Networking- Programming- Electronics- Cyber SecurityWe also encourage you to bring your own ideas to the table. The student will participate in our research on robots that can manipulate lego bricks. Currently, we are working on a lego sorting machine based on a conveyor belt. The main challenge is recognizing the shape of the bricks based on camera images and constructing a 3D model of the bricks. Also the mechanical part of the robot contains several challenges, such as getting a good grip of the pieces. The use of a camera in robotics is still not common, while it would give robots a better awareness of its environment. After an exploration period, the exact work will be determined together with the student, depending on his capacities and interests. GENERAL PURPOSEYou will become part of our advanced modelling team, working on international and highly innovative projects in the water field. The purpose of these project is to optimise, better design, and effectively scale-up water technology unit processes. These are processes used to treat drinking water and wastewater (for example: settling processes, membrane filtration processes, bioreactors, ... (see examples at AM-TEAM.com). The purpose of our modelling work is making clients happy by saving energy, improving water quality, saving operational costs etc. See this internship as an opportunity to become part of a strong team sharing some core values (see further), and being known for high level work.MORE SPECIFICUsing computational fluid dynamics, you will be modelling the unit processes in 3D, and AM-TEAM is known for its in house models, that can go further than 'standard' models. For example, we typically do not limit ourselves to calculation of flow patterns of the water in 3D. We often add 'process knowledge' in the form of adding a different phase (e.g. solids), accounting for different densities, or including kinetics. The good news is, you don't have to start from scratch, and you will be able to use and run existing models. Your work will be mainly related to R&D, and using the models we have, you will try to get new insights laying a foundation for novel ways to design and control the unit processes. For example, by understanding flow patterns of water and gas bubbles, as function of operational conditions, one could suggest smarter system design and operation. One could come up with opportunities no one currently considers using 'standard' practice. Completed years of study: 3Student is at the end of the curriculum. This means, in advanced stage of the master degree.Basic CFD experience is added value. Understanding of process modelling is asset. Gas circuit breakers are key components of electric energy transmission system and secure their reliable operation. Two groups work together towards an understanding of the complex physics of gas circuit breakers. They design and perform lab experiments and develop numerical simulation tools.Tasks:- Design and set up experimental devices for high voltage (above 100 kV) and high power tests- Under the supervision of scientists, you will have the possibility to perform experiments- Evaluate and interpret experimental results- Execute field calculations for gas circuit breakers (flow, dielectric, multi-physics)- Collaboration with scientists and engineers from business units and universities Completed years of study: 3- Vast practical experience required!
