Networking is becoming ever more important in connected world. In industrial networks, there are many requirements related to design, operation and maintenance of networks. At the same time, cyber security, poses new challenges to operations of safe and secure networks. Therefore, for both existing network and newly designed networks, they should be regularly subjected to new robustness tests to validate their capability to stand the test of time and new threats.
This project will investigate three main aspects related to network design, design validation and network robustness testing. It will involve the following:
- Review of the techniques used to document communication networks
- Propose a method which can be used to document networks independent of network vendors or proprietary protocols.
- Develop a mockup solution to document networks as-built, for example, physical or logical topology.
- Compare the as-built topology versus recommended topologies.
- Run tests on the network to document network capacity and quality.
- Create tests to check networks robustness against typical network issues.
We are looking for Bachelor- or Masterstudents with an interest and enthusiasm for any of the topics described, preferably with a profile towards electrical engineering, control systems engineering, cybernetics, industrial design, informatics, computer science, service design or telecom
- Programming: .NET (Preferred) not must.
- Tool knowledge: Wireshark
We also encourage you to bring your own ideas to the table. The nature of the proposed thesis project, call for candidates characterized by strong drive, motivation and curiosity, a good general mathematical understanding and effective written and oral communication skills.
