The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is a teaching and research institution within the field of medicine and health.
We are part of the Integrated University Hospital in Trondheim together with St. Olavs Hospital.
The Faculty has activity in Trondheim, Gjøvik, Ålesund and Levanger. We have around 1800 employees, many of which also have positions within the Health Care Services. We have around 6500 students.

About the position
This is a 100 % permanent post at The Department of Public Health and Nursing, ISM, and is funded by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
ISM conducts research and teaching in the disiplines of epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, medical statistics, general practice, public health, social medicine, women`s health, medical conduct, bioethics, nursing and medical history. The department includes the Nord-Trøndelag Health Study (HUNT), which is the main resource of research data for the majority of research groups (). For more information about ISM see.
At ISM, genetic epidemiology is organized under the K.G. Jebsen Center for Genetic Epidemiology, one of sixteen excellent reserch centers nationally within translational medicine.
In addition to the announced position there will be five full professors at the Jebseb center, within a multidisciplinary research enviroment of more than thirty group-members ranging from faculty (professors/associate professors), post docs/PhD-candidates within genetic epidemiology, clinical epidemiology/medicie, biostatistics, statistical analyses, systems biology, data engineering and IT-management (www.huntgenes.no). A recently established resource for largescale genetic analyses, The HUNT data centre and HUNT Cloud is also localized as a service for the Jebsen Center
Work description
As faculty member, the person holding the post is responsible for teaching, supervision of students and research, especially within the discipline of Genetic Epidemiology.
One is obliged to take part in administrative duties at the department level and to participate in implementation of the teaching programme according to the curricula in effect as well as any changes in the teaching program due to developments of the subject areas.
The person appointed must also comply with any organizational changes related to other university activities.
Qualification requirements
We are seeking faculty with research competences, excellent skills and experience in genetic epidemiology to be resposible for professional development, research, education and supervision in the field.
The candidate should have overall insight and documented knowledge in general epidemiology, population health, clinical medicine, molecular biology, biomedical informatics. Publications in high-ranked journals are expected and documented scientific competence in one or several of the other subject area listed.
- A PhD relevant for the position is required.
- Proficiency in oral and written English.
- Broad research methodological skills will be emphasized as well as innovative research results.
- Experience with applications for external research funding.
The Department of Public Health and Nursing is part of the medical school, and holding an MD degree in addition to PhD will be considered positive.
For appointment as a professor, an academic level conforming to establishedis required. Further requirements are documentation of practical teaching competence based on education or on teaching and supervision, documentation of dissemination of knowledge and research, and documentation of education and experience in administration and management.
A requirement for appointment as an associate professor is a doctoral degree in the subject area concerned or competence at a corresponding level documented by academic work of the same scope and quality. A further requirement is documentation of relevant practical competence in teaching based on education or on teaching and supervision.
The successful candidate must be able to document extensive professional and clinical qualifications as well as scientific expertise in one or more aspects of the discipline for which this post is responsible.
The ability to initiate and lead research and teaching will be emphasized, in addition to teaching and supervision at PhD level. Importance will also be attached to teaching skills. The evaluation will be based on documented material related to teaching, including qualifications in educational theory and practice, presentation skills in academic work, teaching experience, and other pedagogical background. Quality and breadth will be evaluated. Emphasis will also be placed on personal aptitude.
Applicants who are not qualified for a professorship may be appointed to the post of associate professor. In accordance with the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts of 9 February 2006, issued by the Ministry of Education and Research, a person who is appointed as an associate professor may apply for personal promotion to a professorship.

It is essential that the person appointed have good collaborative skills, leadership experience and the ability to work across traditional academic boundaries. Emphasis will also be placed on communicative skills, as well as personal suitability.

Salary and conditions
The gross salary for the position of Professors (code 1013) is normally from NOK 695 500,- to 900 000,- before tax per year,?depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
Depending on qualifications and academic background, the gross salary for the position of Associated Professors (code 1011) is normally from NOK 565 000,- to 695 000,- before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
Appointment takes place on the terms that apply to State employees at any time, and after the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
The person appointed must live in a location enabling him/her to be present at and available to the institution.
