We have an exciting opportunity for anEnvironmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Managerwithin our Abbott Rapid Diagnostics business located atOslo, Norway. In this role, you will work under minimal supervision, the scope of this position is responsible for managing the development, planning, implementation, and coordination of environmental compliance, occupational health and safety programs within the company. Develops site safety policies, procedures, and training programs. Monitors compliance with all Norwegian regulation and company policies and standards. Handles all contact with authorities and inspectors --- direct supervision of assigned staff and\or contractors in the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Integration of the EHS system with the group and the division's standards

    • Detailed planning and ensuring the integration of the EHS system according to milestone plan
    • Establish a functional EHS system with processes and procedures
    • Establish a process to ensure that regulatory requirements are always known
    • Responsible for achieving or contributing to achieving EHS goals
    • Establish a program for EHS culture
  • Maintain the EHS system

    • Plan, participate in and ensure the implementation of the systematic EHS processes at the site
    • Develops short- and long-term EHS strategy and plans based on division policy and standards
    • Establish and maintain contingency plans
    • Ensure overview of all applicable regulatory requirements and that the site operates according to these
    • Review and approve EHS incident investigation reports
    • Coordinate audits and inspections initiated by authorities and by the group
    • Coordinate periodic EHS risk assessment
    • Conduct periodic EHS audits/reviews and run improvement plans
    • Establish and monitor the implementation of necessary corrective and preventive measures based on conclusions from EHS audits/reviews
    • Monitor and report EHS data internally and to the business unit
    • Maintain EHS processes and procedures
    • Develop, maintain and implement training programs in EHS tools/procedures/ processes
    • Ensures timelines are adhered to and the necessary documentation is correct
  • Projects

    • Schedule, execute and manage up to several parallel projects, track scope priorities and plans, and meet timelines and costs.
    • Has a good understanding of the site's needs and goals when projects and plans are created.
    • Lead or participate as EHS manager in projects
  • Other operational tasks

    • Develop solutions to complex problems
    • Conducting complex investigations that are important in terms of corporate goals
    • Compares with internal and external references
    • Represents the site as a technical expert in EHS
    • Identifies potential EHS hazards and consequences of new and modified processes/systems/ procedures and ensures that appropriate measures are implemented
  • Troubleshooting

    • Create and coordinate solutions for new or complex issues
    • Integrate regulatory and operational needs.
    • Considering cost vs. benefit
    • Examines possible alternatives
    • Conceptualizes complex solutions
  • Interaction with the organization

    • Shares expertise and provides feedback and guidance to employees in the organization.
    • Interacts with the site management team, the business unit, and the division
    • Prepares written communication and communicate effectively through formal and informal documents
    • Establish, maintain and communicate goals for EHS
    • Prepare and present a periodic executive summary of EHS goals (metrics) versus goals and action plans to site management team and business unit.
    • Report metrics in daily and monthly Tier meetings

Specific responsibility:

Environment

  • Responsible for permits for hazardous waste generation.
  • Manage the collection, storage, and disposal of the hazardous waste generated on site.
  • Responsible for regulatory permitting for applicable generators, air tanks and boilers on site in cooperation with the Facility manager.
  • Manages company recycling and transportation drive management (TDM) programs.
  • Manage Annual Source Reduction Program

Health

  • Conduct onsite ergonomic job measurements and studies.
  • Conduct onsite job safety analysis.
  • Coordinate annual medical investigations conducted by the Occupational Health provider.

Safety

  • Coordinate EHS Training classes (Dangerous Goods, Forklift, Hazardous waste, Automated External Defibrillators, First Aid, CPR, Hazard Communication, Injury and Illness Prevention, Laboratory Safety, Solvent Safety, hazardous waste handling, etc),
  • Coordinate Annual Fire inspections
  • Manage regulatory requirements for chemicals used onsite (storage, MSDS, handling, fire protection, fume hoods, etc).
  • Ensure Material Safety Data Sheets are established and maintained.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Higher technical / science education (B.Sc.) or similar
  • 7-10 years of experience from EHS work in a relevant production environment
  • Very good knowledge and understanding of ISO 14001 or OHSAS 18001
  • Very good knowledge of local laws and regulations
  • Experience in implementing new standards and requirements
  • Project Experience
  • Documented experience with risk assessment, problem-solving tools, and root cause analysis
  • Fluent in a Scandinavian language and English (written and verbal)
  • Auditing experience is an advantage
  • Experience with GMP or ISO13485 is an advantage

Personal skills:

  • Must operate independently, based solely on advisory feedback
  • Must have solid communication capabilities and communicate across functions and disciplines
  • Must be able to develop an EHS culture and work with different people/teams
  • Must be a relationship builder with leadership skills
  • Must be able to coordinate several projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to identify problems and solutions effectively
  • Must have strong analytical and organizational characteristics
