Started in Summer 2018 Tromsø Outdoor has in offer repairs and maintenance services for bikes and since February 2017 for skis and boards in winter. For ski service we are using Omega SBI and Waxjet 92 machines this season and we anticipate offering more comprehensive service with time.
Bike workshop was previously used primarily for maintenance our own rental bikes, we are going to develop it further this summer. It is ongoing project and requires good planning and strategy for the future.
We have in stock over 200 bikes, 80 sets of touring skis, over 150 sets of cross country skis, 20 splitbaords and a lot of other equipment.
Our goal is to keep the bike and ski workshop with high quality of services open all year round and all our equipment in as great condition as possible. Therefore, we look for one person for full time work, who would like to develop the workshop further together with us and also take responsibility for servicing and maintenance of Tromsø Outdoor rental gear.
Latest work start is November 2019, with the possibility for starting earlier.
Work responsibilities include
- responsibility for maintenance and assembling rental bikes (we have in stock over 200 rental bikes, primarily touring bikes, but also e-bikes, mtb and road bikes; work together with one-two other mechanics)
- service and maintenance of rental skis and boards (ca 150 xc skis, 80 sets of touring skis, 20 splitboards)
- maintenance of other equipment from Tromsø Outdoor offer
- coordination of work in the workshop for other 1-2 bike mechanics in the summer and 2-3 ski service people in winter who are working on seasonal basics
- ordering parts, tools and articles needed in the workshop
- administration work needed for having control and overview over the workshop and rental gear stock
- coordination and administration work related to bike and ski services offered locally to Tromsø Outdoor customers
- work at Tromsø Outdoor rental center (renting equipment out, advising our guests on local activities destination, sale of activities and merchandise on our shop, opening and closing the site if needed, keeping order in the shop and workshop) without major responsibility for daily operations
Required competences and personal qualities
- experience in bike mechanics
- experience in ski and board service
- experience in work with the Wintrsteiger machines (or similar)
- extensive knowledge about bikes mechanics and ski equipment
- good communication and English language skills
- basic level computer skills
- driving licence will be an advantage but is not necessary
- Norwegian/Sweedish/German/French/Spanish language proficiency is an advantage but is not necessary
- attachment to the details and being used to planning work and organizing work place
- valid permition to work and live in Norway
- positive, creative and solution oriented attitude
- enjoying and used to working in a flexible international environment
- being used to work independently and taking responsibility for work tasks
- enjoying working in a team
- interest for developing new project, improving existing solutions, work conditions and offers
Working Scheme
Variable shifts between 8:00 and 19:00, usually 7.5 hours daily. Occasionally work at other times (for opening outside of the regular hours).
100 % position - ca.37.5 h/week, 2 days free for each week of work, work during the weekends and public holidays ocassionally may be required.
We can provide opportunity to join schooling organized by our bike and ski suppliers.
