Within the framework of the position duties will be assigned. Starting date as soon as possible.

About the position

We offer a 2 year researcher position in the Soft Matter group at the Department of Chemistry, University of Oslo under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Reidar Lund.

The project will be related to formulation and characterization of polymeric nanocarrier systems that can be used for encapsulation and entrapment of pharmaceutically or biologically active compounds such as antimicrobial peptides. A particular focus will be towards the relationship between the structural and dynamic properties of self-assembled systems, release of cargo and the resulting interactions with model membranes. The candidate will perform in depth physico-chemical studies using mainly advanced scattering techniques based on X-ray, neutron and light which will be compared to biological performance that will be investigated by collaborators.

Rapid kinetic processes will be studied using a stopped-flow apparatus /microfluidic devices coupled to neutron/X-rays or a spectroscopy/light scattering set-up available in our lab. The project will involve extensive international collaborations with experts in polymer synthesis and biochemistry, frequent trips at synchrotron/neutron facilities and theoretical data modelling. The candidate will also have responsibilities in running a lab source SAXS instrument as well as participating in tasks related to teaching and supervision of students.

The position is initially for two years but may be extended up to three years depending on the success of external grant applications.
