Department of Computer Science (IDI) in Gjøvik invites applications for a 4-year fulltime PhD/Early Stage Researcher position in Computer Science. The position will be based at the Norwegian Colour and Visual Computing Laboratory.

The main task of the PhD student in the project will be twofold. Firstly, to uniquely link individual cone fundamentals of human vision (developed in another part of the project) with a colour metric that will be based on a mathematical model whose geometry comprehensively describes the perceptual dimension. Secondly, to develop perceptually meaningful colour image optimization techniques that facilitate the prediction of perceptual colour content in images between individuals with different colour vision.
The position reports to head of department
The candidate is expected to work towards combining knowledge from fundamental colour science, differential geometry, computational science and image processing to define new methods for individualised image optimisation, and to publish the results in scientific journals and conferences. Over the four years, the candidate will serve 25% of the time for duty work. During the four-year period, the candidate will spend one six-month period at the University of East Anglia.

The PhD-position's main objective is to qualify for work in research positions. The qualification requirement is completion of a master's degree or second degree (equivalent to 120 credits) with a strong academic background in mathematics, image processing, computer science or equivalent education with a grade of B or better in terms of . Applicants with no letter grades from previous studies must have an equally good academic foundation. Applicants who are unable to meet these criteria may be considered only if they can document that they are particularly suitable candidates for education leading to a PhD degree.

PhD candidates are remunerated in code 1017, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 479 600 before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
The period of employment is four years (with or without required duties in the form of teaching assistance). Appointment to a PhD position requires admission to the PhD programme in Computer Science. As a PhD candidate, you undertake to participate in an organized PhD programme during the employment period. A condition of appointment is that you are in fact qualified for admission to the PhD programme within three months.
Appointment takes place on the terms that apply to State employees at any time, and after the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology.
