Job description

A position as Postdoctoral Fellow in Developmental Psychology is open at the Section for Health, Developmental and Personality Psychology at the Department of Psychology. The Section covers basic and applied research and teaching for the Bachelor, Master, Professional (Clinical) and PhD programs in health, developmental and personality psychology. It has around 50 national and international permanent and non-permanent staff.

More about the position

The appointment is a fulltime position for a period of 3-4 years (with up to 25 % of which is devoted to required duties, usually in the form of teaching activities) depending on the Department's needs and the qualifications of the candidate.

Postdoctoral fellows who are appointed for a period of four years are expected to acquire basic pedagogical competency in the course of their fellowship period within the duty component of 25 %.

The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.

The appointee will have to contribute to the Section's research in developmental psychology (basic or applied).

The evaluation of the applicants will be based on their educational background, research record, research project quality, teaching experience, personal suitability and motivation. Academic achievements will be weighed against career stage.

Qualification requirements
  • Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian Doctoral degree in psychology or equivalent. The doctoral dissertation must have been submitted for evaluation prior to the closing date. The appointment is dependent on the doctoral degree being granted. A PhD degree in developmental psychology or equivalent will be considered as an advantage.
  • Applicants must have a good research record (e.g. number, quality, originality and interest of publications, number of citations and h-index, external funding, awards). Research record in the field of developmental psychology or equivalent will be considered as an advantage.
  • Applicants must provide a research project proposal (max. 5 pages, excluding references). The research project should be original, interesting and within the field of developmental psychology (basic or applied). It is expected that the research project will be completed in the course of the period of employment. The research project should also be relevant for the research in developmental psychology taking place at the Section (current or upcoming).Applicants are encouraged to contact at least one of the Section's permanent academic staff in developmental psychology to discuss their research project and future cooperation.
  • Undergraduate and/or graduate teaching experience (e.g. lecturing, supervision, examination, course organisation, teaching prize), especially in the field of developmental psychology or equivalent, will be considered as an advantage. Applicants are advised to familiarize themselves with the teaching covered by the section.
  • Applicants must have fluent oral and written communication skills in English. Skills in Norwegian will be considered as an advantage.
  • Applicants must be able to work both independently and to cooperate with others, and be highly motivated.

  • A research project description of max. 5 pages including background, objectives, implications, method, plan and budget as well as the applicant's contribution to the research project.

  • Copies of educational certificates (academic transcripts only).
  • A list of 2-3 references (name, relation to candidate, e-mail and phone number). No letter of reference should be included in the application.

In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on the documented, academic qualifications, the project description (whenever this is required in the call for applicants), and the quality of the project as well as the candidates motivation and personal suitability. Interviews with the best qualified candidates will be arranged.
It is expected that the successful candidate will be able to complete the project in the course of the period of employment.
