The Cancer Registry of Norway -- Institute of Population-based Cancer Research is an independent governmental research institution organized under Oslo University Hospital (OUS). The CRN is also responsible for registration of all cancer cases in the country, and for providing the health authorities with scientific information and advice. In addition, the CRN is in charge of the screening programmes for both cervical cancer and breast cancer, and is responsible for a pilot project for a nationwide colorectal cancer screening programme. One Special Consultant position (Research Assistant) for a period of two years, with possibility of an extension, is available at the Department of Research. The position is related to the projects: 'Pre-diagnostic dynamics of small non-coding RNAs in endometrial cancer -- impact of body mass index', financed through the Norwegian Cancer Society's Open Call 2019 and 'Eradication of Preventable Gallbladder Cancer' financed through EU Horizon 2020 programme EULAT.

The aims of the projects are to identify molecular biomarkers for endometrial and gall bladder cancer. We will use established sequencing protocols and bioinformatics pipelines tailored for analyzing circulating RNA in serum samples and collaborate with partner laboratories for genotyping and methylation analyses. The samples are retrieved from i) the Janus Serum Bank Cohort and linked with register data on cancer diagnosis from the Cancer Registry of Norway and environmental exposure data from health surveys, ii) samples collected by partners in Latin-America. Job description

  • Coordinate laboratory analyses in collaboration with the Norwegian Sequencing Center
  • DNA and RNA extraction and sequencing library preparation quantitative PCR validation
  • Project coordination
  • Data management and data handling
  • Quality assurance and documentation
  • Coordination of grant applications

Qualifications

  • Master degree in molecular biology or equivalent
  • Experience with DNA and RNA extraction and/or next-generation sequencing
  • Skilled and precise in molecular analyses
  • Some experience with data management and data analyses is preferable

Personal skills

  • Ability to work independently and systematically
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good coordination skills
