Stillingsbeskrivelse

About the position

The Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences and Maritime Sciences has a vacancy for a position as PhD Research Fellow in Applied Micro- and Nanosystems.

The position is located at the Department of Microsystems and reports to the Head of Department. The place of employment is Campus Vestfold in Horten.

The focused research will be on ultra-thin piezoelectric MEMS Microphone flexible array. By using multi-Piezoelectric layers based on micro- and nanotechnologies together with interface and control electronics, improved temporal and spatial resuloution for measuring unsteady pressure fluctuations on an arbitrary curvature surface can be achieved.

About the PhD-project

The PhD research fellow position connects to an IMS-supported research activity in collaboration with Silicon Austria Lab's microsystem research unit (MST). The PhD project will be within the research field of Applied Micro- and Nanosystems. The PhD research fellow will work mostly in IMS and upto one year in MST at SAL.

The candidate will be involved in a large activity network formed by different European academic partners to develop a novel ultrathin piezoelectric MEMS microphone flexible array dedicated to accurate acoustic measurements with high both temporal and spatial resolution and suitable for arbitrary curvature surface unsteady pressure monitoring. The major task for the candidate is to design and modeling the ultrathin Piezoelectric MEMS microphone, to develop the technology and optimize the process for depositing high quality piezoelectric thin films of micro or sub-micro thickness, and the thin contact layers. The research tasks also include the device fabrication.

Appointment is for a period of three years. The position does not include teaching duties.

Qualifications

Applicants to the PhD position must have a Master's degree or equivalent higher education qualifications in physics, material science, microsystem technology, electronic engineering or closely related subjects. The applicant must have gained the degree within the commencement date.

It is a requirement that the successful applicant is granted admission to the university's doctoral programme in Applied Micro- and Nanosystems within three months of accession in the position, which requires an average grade B from Master's degree, in addition to grade B at the final master project.

Co-operation between staff members is an integrated part of the working atmosphere at the University of South-Eastern Norway. The candidate must be motivated and demonstrate a proven ability to work effectively within a team and in a collegiate manner to formulate and realise common objectives.
