Context:

  • Subsea and Land Systems Business Group (SLS BG) is one of the main contributors in the Nexans Group journey to become a pure electrification player. EUR 200m investment is going to be deployed within the next 3 years to increase capacity of the Halden (Norway) cable manufacturing plant and to upgrade the Charleston (South Carolina, USA) production site - supporting growing demand for high-voltage cables which are critical for the energy transition. As the business size and its complexity are growing, there is a need to strengthen the controlling function focusing on strategic investments and ongoing business, as well as to develop and execute a focused strategy facilitating data analysis coming from different systems.
  • Head of Business Controlling and Finance & IS Transformation, SLS BG is going to play a critical role supporting SLS BG CFO and Management Committee to go successfully through the growth, maintain controls of the strategic investments, develop and execute the data management roadmap, support reorganization/transformation of the SLS BG finance & IS function aligning it better with the business needs.

Position Sizing:

  • SLS BG is a Global Business with €700m+ sales growing up to €1bn+ by 2024. ~2000 employees
  • The person will manage the business controlling & transformation team,, and will be expected to actively engage and collaborate with other departments within and outside of the SLS finance & IS organization

Purpose, responsibilities, and tasks

Purpose:

  • Enhances quality and added-value of the Business Controlling, Reporting, Budgeting and Forecasting -- through simplifying processes, supporting and challenging the business and finance teams
  • Analyzes financial data to support and drive the development of the SLS business
  • Streamlines and adapts governance and reporting
  • Enhances financial controlling, monitoring and reporting of the major Capex projects and R&D projects
  • Centralizes management of the Power BI and other business applications -- strategy and implementation
  • Supports execution of the transformation for the finance & IS organization

Responsibility:

  • Ensures consolidated SLS BG reporting’s accuracy and deadlines
  • Challenges actual, forecast and budget numbers before those presented to the Business Group management; proactively identifies points of attention for the SLS management
  • Leads monthly business review reporting ie financial information, dashboards, analytics, and drafts business comments
  • Assumes full control and consolidates Capex (including the major expansion investment program) and R&D program at SLS BG level, ensuring consistency among different sites/entities and handling collaboration with BG and Corporate industrial and R&D departments
  • Develops the business controlling team across the Business Group
  • Leads the transformation of the Business Group’s finance & IS organization, systems and processes
  • Leads business group follow-up and analysis of indirect costs, manufacturing variances, costs saving initiative
  • Identifies business and financial risk & opportunities
  • Analyzes financial and operational indicators, especially to explain commercial, operational and industrial results
  • Supports SLS Management Team and Manager Business Analysis in identifying performance drivers, and in defining & monitoring action plans to reach strategic targets

Expected results:

  • Supports the closing process, drive reporting process and challenge the business in terms of actual, forecast and budget financial results
  • Ensures consistency in the business controlling and systems implementation/use throughout the organization
  • Supervises controlling of the major capital investments projects
  • Leads transformation of the SLS Finance & IS teams in the context of evolving business organization and needs

What we are looking for:

  • Education: University / relevant Bachelor or Master degree
  • 10+ years’ finance/controlling experience in industrial or projects business environment, including handling large investments and/or transformation initiatives. 3+ years of people management experience
  • Large work capacity, ability and experience working with and managing global teams in a fast- paced multicultural international environment
  • Independent self-starter
  • Team spirit
  • Result oriented
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Strong business analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Able to synthesize information and prepare clear documentation/presentation
  • Advance user of Excel and PPT
  • Relevant practical experience working with ERP and Financial Consolidation systems
  • Power BI (or similar tool) implementation/user experience is a plus
  • Overseas experience being a plus
  • Fluent in English. Norwegian language is a plus, but not mandatory
