Context:
- Subsea and Land Systems Business Group is specialized on execution of the turnkey and supply-only contracts for the Subsea and Land cable manufacturing and installation around the globe. With the growth of the manufacturing and installation capacities, expansion of the projects and teams geographies, increase in complexities of tendering activities -- there is a need to centralize management of the project and tender controlling
- Head of Project and Tender Controlling of SLS BG is a new and unique role with the global responsibilities managing the controlling of the Project Margin both at execution and tender phases.
Position Sizing:
- Team of approx 20 project and tender controllers in different locations
- Global Business with €700m+ sales growing up to €1bn+ by 2024.
- Major pipeline being tendered
Purpose, responsibilities, and tasks
Purpose:
- Manages the SLS project controlling team around the world, moving from the local to the global organization approach and creating unique flexible and scalable organization
- Sets-up, supervises, and trains the tender controlling team to meet the increasing challenges and complexities of the SLS tendering activities
- Optimizes and improves tools, processes, content and quality with regards to project controlling reporting and tender documentation
Responsibility:
- Leads SLS project and tender controlling teams
- Responsible for budgeting, forecasting, reporting and analysis of Project Gross Margin for SLS BG
- Supports projects and installation teams’ leaders in delivering the target result, managing risks and finding opportunities
- Harmonizes the tender and project controlling processes within SLS
- Links legal, technical, purchase, sales and other events/issues/risks information to financial performance. Develops and communicates a comprehensive financial impact analysis on SLS projects
- Monitors financial processes, internal controls and evolution of the applicable IFRS rules
- Standardizes and enhances content and quality of the Monthly Project Reviews
- Organizes the multi units project from choice of fronting unit to monitoring the financial results (progress of sales, margin, cash, taxes, ?)
- Responsible for content and improvement of the Power BI tool used for cross-entities consolidation of the projects’ financials
- Contributes at the tender stage to the assessment of all financial risks, currency and commodity risk, cash flow, assessing bank guarantees, international tax issues, credit risk; challenges and scrutinizes cost assumptions
- Support actively the Sales and Tendering team to develop the most cost effective execution plan for tenders
- Works closely with the Production, Installation, Purchasing, Finance departments to establish the best ways for the tender controllers to obtain accurate costing input
- Engages actively with above mentioned departments to identify potential cost savings based on historical benchmark and synergies between projects
- Creates, follows and improves procedures to maintain the necessary quality and standards of tender costs estimation
- Develops Return on Experience / feedback loop with Projects actual costs to improve cost estimates
- Participates actively to the implementation of a new cost estimating tool
Expected results:
- Independent and pro-active high-quality management of everything that relates to the Project Gross Margin aspects -- with the processes and deliverables consistent throughout organization
- Tender Controlling team up and running providing required level of support to the Sales & Tendering team
- Systems and tools utilized to the largest extent possible, with the manual work reduced to the bear minimum
What we are looking for:
- Education: University / relevant Bachelor or Master degree
- 10+ years’ project controlling experience including aspects of the tender controlling/costs estimates. 3+ years of people management experience
- Knowledge of EPCI / turnkey projects environment preferred
- Large work capacity, ability and experience working with and managing global teams in a fast- paced multicultural international environment
- Independent self-starter
- Team spirit
- Result oriented
- Analytical and Continuous improvement mindset
- Strong business acumen
- Experience reading legal documentation sufficient to identify the risks attached to contracts, and to address them with legal, tender and project departments
- Able to synthesize information and prepare clear documentation/presentation
- Advance user of Excel and PPT
- Relevant practical experience working with SAP
- Power BI (or similar tool) implementation/user experience is a plus
- Overseas experience is a plus
- Fluent in English. Norwegian language is a plus, but not mandatory
