We are now looking for Assistant Drillers for North Sea Installations. The Assistant Driller is responsible for assisting the Driller by undertaking tasks as assigned in an efficient and timely manner.
Area(s) of Responsibility- Skid deck and wellhead areas.
- Supervision and performance of personnel working in the above areas.
- Physical condition of areas and equipment, planned inspections and relevant documentation.
- All drilling packages.
Job Description
Key responsibilities· Assist and relieve the Driller as necessary in supervising all work carried out on the drilling unit, ensuring that such work is carried out efficiently and in compliance with authorised operating procedures and Company Safety Policy. · Assist in preparing all tools and equipment required for well operations. Maintain accurate records of tubulars run in the hole including pipe tally, full BHA/completion components and critical fishing dimensions e.g. ID/OD and connections. · Carry out daily checks as required (e.g. Koomey Unit and BOP status checks). · Assist with maintenance, repair or replacement tasks in accordance with Company's Planned Preventative Maintenance System. · Ensure accurate and complete handovers and assist in maintaining daily drilling records. · Direct the personnel under their authority in the practical steps to ensure that all working places are maintained in a clean, tidy and safe condition and all working practices employed are safe. · Along with Derrickman operate, monitor, repair and maintain mud pumps and the entire drilling fluid circulation system, including pumps, fluid lines, shale shakers and mud tanks. · Supervise the monitoring of drilling fluids and mud testing. · Understand and maintain B.O.P. system, check reservoir fluid and accumulator bottle pressure. · Evaluate all work to be carried out to the requirements of the Permit-to-Work system, initiate Permits-to-Work as necessary and ensure that all safety precautions are taken and work is only carried out as stated in the Permit-to-Work. · Responsible for the supervision of personnel engaged in activities in their area of responsibility or for which they have been allocated responsibility by their supervisor. · Monitor, supervise and coach any Service company or Vendor company representatives that may be involved in the operations on the rig. · Stand-in for alternative work discipline as required. · Complete any other reasonable tasks as delegated by Line Supervisor. · Attend onshore or offshore meetings and additional training, as required.
Primary responsibilitiesSafety· Familiarise themselves with the Archer Safety Policy and to take all reasonable care to ensure the health and safety of themselves and persons likely to be affected by their acts or omissions. · Ensure that the Archer Safety Policy is fully implemented and adhered to by all persons under their authority. · Ensure that all tasks supervised are adequately planned in advance and Risk Assessed, making use of client, pre-shift, TBT/TRIC, and are communicated to those involved. · Attend TBT/TRIC when acting as first-line supervisor for the task or participating in the task. · Comply with Waste Management Legislation, Manual Handling Regulations, COSHH, Risk Assessments. · Ensure that all lifting operations are carried out in accordance with LOLER and Archer lifting operations procedures. · Ensure that planned safety inspections and audits on the installation are carried out in accordance with Archer Safety Policy by themselves and those under their authority. · Ensure that all personnel under their control meet their assigned periodic safety tasks, targets and objectives. · Provide adequate supervision for all employees (directly supervised). · Ensure that all personnel under their authority properly use and care for their personal protective equipment. · Ensure that all equipment under their control is maintained at all times in a safe condition or is otherwise completely withdrawn from service. · Carry out unsafe act auditing and plant inspection at least once during each offshore trip (delegate as appropriate). · Ensure that all working places for personnel on the installation are always safe. · Participate and, where appropriate, chair safety meetings, drills, fire and abandon platform drills, and safety training programmes. · Bring to the immediate notice of their supervisor actual and potential hazards to safety, health, plant and equipment which come to their attention in the course of their work, to warn crew of the hazard and take such action as to minimise the risk. · Ensure that all accidents, unsafe practices or conditions observed by the persons under their authority are reported promptly to the Senior Toolpusher and/or Night Toolpusher or Driller. · Monitor personnel under their supervision in their approach towards safety and provide proactive coaching when ever necessary. · Review each task and identify what level of risk assessment is required. · Ensure that all tasks undertaken within their area of responsibility are assessed to identify any hazard that may cause harm or damage. · Ensure that control measures are implemented to reduce likelihood of a risk occurring to as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP). · Reject or redefine the task if residual risk is not ALARP. · Ensure that any potential improvements highlighted during the assessment process are reviewed and actioned / implemented as appropriate. · Communicate details of the risk assessment to the work team, allocating individual responsibilities for tasks and control measures. · Ensure that all members of the team have the opportunity to identify further hazards and controls. · Ensure that before work commences all members of the team are in agreement with the risk assessment and the proposed control measures. · Ensure that any lessons learnt are captured to improve the task or risk assessment procedure. · Ensure that Well Control (Drillers) and other statutory or contractual training are valid and up to date.

Systems and Processes· Maintain the Permit to Work system fully in use for any associated work in their area. · Comply with Archer Safety Management System.
People· Carry out competence assessment in respect of departmental staff, performance evaluations and identify long term career potential etc. · Become competent in their particular discipline and ensure their crew personnel work towards competency for their own positions to support career development. · Utilise, as and when appropriate, the Performance Management Review Appraisal Procedure as well as the Disciplinary Procedure for detailing performance issues including; high standards of work, career development and / or sub-standard performance. · Participate with their Driller in the performance evaluation of all agency personnel under their authority as required. · Ensure that all employees under their authority have sufficient information and knowledge to carry out their job without endangering any persons, plant or equipment and are adequately trained and experienced for a particular task before they are instructed to carry it out. · Train to achieve proficiency in operation of Cyber rig controls and drilling procedures for relief of Driller when required. · Train crew in all procedures and operations required for safe and efficient rig performance.
Quality· Ensure compliance to all relevant Archer management systems and where applicable client procedues.
