Permanent position as informatician (overingeniør) - Department of Medical Genetics, Oslo University Hospital
Will you join us in transforming medical genetics into an information science?
High-throughput sequencing (HTS) is a recent technology that allows for fast and cost-effective characterisation of DNA. This has already marked a watershed in medical genetics and is paving the way for highly personalised treatment of patients in medicine in general. At OUS, we are rapidly expanding our diagnostic offer using this technology and are now looking for a new collegue to build vital parts of our core IT-infrastructure.
Arbeidsoppgaver
- You will work:
- on helping us build/maintain high-performance computing infrastructure for HTS data
- further develop and scale a large database of genetic variation
- in a highly interdisciplinary environment and a growing team of 8 bioinformaticians
Kvalifikasjoner- Your profile:
- ·Higher education in informatics or related disciplines
- ·Knowledge of and interest in planning, building, and supporting HPC infrastructures
- ·Proficient with Linux and in system administration
- ·Experience with programming (e.g. Python)
- ·Fast learner, motivation and ability to take initiative
- ·Reliable and structured, works well with others in interdisciplinary settings
- ·Excellent Norwegian or English oral/writing skills
- Preferred but not required:
- ·Knowledge of managing and scaling systems/DBs to handle very large data volumes
- ·Experience with modern database systems (e.g. PostgreSQL)
- ·A knack for data analysis, and an interest in data security and in learning genetics

- The Department of Medical Genetics is Norway’s largest genetical department with 200 employees. The position on offer is organised under Section of Laboratory Diagnostics. The section has several HTS instruments from Illumina and is also co-located with the Norwegian Sequencing Centre (NSC), which is a national core facility for sequencing in research. The department has a good working environment and a welcoming atmosphere.
