ICR-International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry was established in 2005 in Guovdageaidnu/Kautokeino, Norway as a contribution to the unique international collaboration between the circumpolar reindeer herding peoples. ICR works in the different reindeer herding regions across the circumpolar north.

The purpose of ICR is to:

- contribute to maintain and develop a sustainable reindeer husbandry in the North

- strengthen the collaboration between reindeer herding peoples

- maintain and document the traditional knowledge of reindeer herding

- knowledge development in relevant fields together with international partners

- communicate knowledge on circumpolar reindeer husbandry

ICR's international groups are reindeer herders, narional authorities, research, education and knowledge institutions, organizations and collaboration bodies, business interests and the Arctic society in general.

ICR is also hosting the Secretariat ofAssociation of World Reindeer Herders (WRH) .This is a circumpolar contact forum and organization for more than 20 indigenous peoples living of reindeer husbandry, counting close to 100 000 reindeer herders in 10 different national states.

ICR is organized as a state administrative entity with special authority. This means that ICR is professionally independent, and the Board is the highest body with superior responsibility for overall strategies and professional activities. ICR has an international Board with members from Norway, Russia, Sweden and Finland. The basic funding of ICR comes from the Norwegian Ministry of Regional Government and Modernization. ICR has its main administration in Guovdageaidnu/Kautokeino, Norway. ICR also has represenative offices/affiliated offices in other countries and region. Eleven persons are at the moment employed at ICR.

ICR is also one of the founding partners behind the UArctic EALÁT Institute - University of the Arctic Institute for Circumpolar Reindeer Husbandry, for which ICR is the international coordinator.

The official working languages at the Centre are English, Russian and Sámi.

Om stillingen

A 100 % engagement as consultant/advisor at the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry (ICR) for up to 3 years, with future possibilities for permanent employment. (Alternatively the position can be divided into part-time engagement as consultant/advisor for up to 3 years, consulting one 100 % position in all, with future possibilities for permanent employment).

The working place will be in Sakha in Russia, at an ICR affiliated centre/entety.

Working tasks

The position has a focus on reindeer herding in Russia, which represents the largest reindeer herding country. The work tasks include production of articles, reviews, news and other production of content on ICR's webpage, mainly in Russian. The position will also involve translation of articles and documents between Russian and English, and possibility between other indigenous languages. The employee shall also participate in other professional activities for ICR, including projects and outreach activities. The employee shall collaborate closely with the Centre's team and projects. The employee must expect travelling in the reindeer husbandry areas etc.

ICR's way of working is characterized by a high degree of independency while there is team-work in specific projects and groups. Since the position will not be located at ICR's main office in Guovdageaidnu/Kautokeino, the employee is required to have continuous contact and follow-up with ICR's main office and other activities. The work will occasionally be demanding and hectic, often with short deadlines. Production goals will be set for the psoition.

The employee reports to the Excecutive Director at ICR, who is the position's superior.

Personal skills/Characteristics

Personal skills will be given significant emphasis. The employee must be able to work both independently and in teams. Good interpersonal skills and communications skills are required. While good skills in oral communication are important, there will be a demand for very good writing skills and communication. There is a need for the employee to quickly obtain overview under changing and complex conditions. As the position requires a high degree of collaboration, interaction and communication internally and externally, documented personal qualities and internpersonal skills will be highly emphesized.

Qualifications

Experience in international collaboration in reindeer husbandry will be prioritized. Higher education at master degree/advanced level or equivalent within relevant fields is required. Relevant education in this case includes, but is not restricted to, social sciences, economy, information etc. Good knowledge of IT-tools in general, as Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc., and experience in web-production is required. Moreover, backgrounds of interest in the Centre's overall activities in variuos fields will be emphesized. The position requires good writing and oral presentation skills.

There is a need to have insight into reindeer husbandry systems and cultures. Cultural skills and traditional knowledge in reindeer husbandry will be highly emphesized. It is required to manage English and Russian, and desirable that the candidate also master one (or more) of the indigenous herding languages.

Conditions

Wage level and other conditions according to qualifications. ICR has several affiliated information centres in Russia. The working place is in Sakha republic in Russia, to be agreed with ICR's Executice Director.

It is desireable that the employee can start working as early as possible. There is a possibility for prolongation of the position, depending on organization development at ICR. The position and its work contents are subject to change as a result of organization development at ICR.
