Nortek is an international instrumentation company, located near Oslo, Norway. We design, develop, manufacture and sell underwater acoustic products for scientists and engineers in more than 90 countries. The products are used to measure ocean currents and waves anywhere from the open ocean to tidal pools.
The core technology is based on the Doppler principle and allows us to measure water velocity and movement on many different scales, depending on the customer application. The company is privately held and has about 100 employees at seven subsidiaries worldwide. Nortek’s roots are in the scientific community, which pioneered the use of acoustic Doppler technology to measure ocean currents in the mid-1980s. Formed in 1996, Nortek grew rapidly after beginning production in-house, then expanded its offerings into services and other marine technologies. In 2014, Nortek launched the new AD2CP hardware platform, allowing our engineers unprecedented flexibility in developing products for new and exciting applications.
The engine that drives Nortek is its multi-talented, global team, each advanced authorities in their field. A worldclass design and development group, a client-facing team with direct technical industry experience, and a spirited support and production team define our ability to serve as well as collaborate with our customers.
