ABB is a global leader in power and automation technologies. This is a significant opportunity for an experienced EHS Manager who wishes to take the next step in his/her career progression. Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate excellent multi-disciplined skills and experience in a senior capacity, ideally in the clients sector. The role will be based in hosted Hub country, with travel to other national facilities throughout Hub countries with periodic visits to service/project export activities executed outside of Hub.

As the Hub HSE Manager and LBU HSE Manager you will ensure that the respective countries operates in alignment with Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility (CR) standards and policies as per ABB's Sustainability strategy.

Coach, support and provide specialist knowledge and advice to Hub LBU teams on HSE, Sustainability and CR matters and report on the KPIs of the respective organization along ABB's value chain.

The position will incorporate both HUB and local HSE reponsibilities

Your responsibilities
  • Metrics -
  • Consolidates data from the incident database, perform trending and analysis on Hub and country performance and reports on HSE incidents to regulators, Global/LBU/Country/Hub Managers. Reports LTIs serious and fatal incidents (immediately) to Global HSE Manager & respective Region HSE Managers within required timescales. Participate/conduct incident investigations and reviews to determine root causes, identifying weaknesses, areas for improvement, ensuring follow up, lessons learnt assurance and continuous improvements.
  • Periodically reports on progress on implementation of BU & ABB Group Sustainability Objectives and KPIs to Global HSE Manager, Hub Manager & ABB Group, as required.
  • Regulatory compliance -
  • Tracks and assesses Hub/country-related emerging trends and legislation and communicate country relevant information on HSE local legal requirements.
  • Assists Hub Manager in understanding his/her obligations, liability and how to fulfil their role, according to local HSE law & Global BU instructions.
  • Risk management -
  • Provides or participates in efficient and competent delivery of training, audit and key risk programs within the constituent Hub/countries or via shared service centers, where they exist.
  • Continuous improvement -
  • Drives behavioral change to continuously improve HSE, Sustainability and CR performance through coordinated BU/Group-wide performance improvement programs and initiatives. Coaches and supports the sharing of best practices, and applies Group/BU standardized processes/instructions to deliver consistent support within the respective organizations.
  • Communication and engagement -
  • Engages external (e.g. customers, suppliers, relevant authorities and other stakeholders) and internal stakeholders in order to report on, raise awareness and gain commitment on ABB's HSE and Sustainability efforts and performance and obtain objective feedback.
  • Ensure effective two way flow of information to and from LBU’s - Cascade information from BU HSE into LBU’s within HUB and feedback on performance.
  • Cooperates with other functions and business partners, integrating HSE into all processes to drive performance. Participate in the HSE Leadership Team for the BU, contribute the generation of a BU Strategy to Manage BU Specific risks/opportunities.
  • Budget -
  • Where applicable, participates in defining the annual budget for area of responsibility and is accountable for managing performance against agreed financial targets and constraints.
  • Operational support -
  • Provides support services to ensure that Management Systems in the Hub countries meet corporate, Business Unit and local legal requirements including ISO 14000/ISO 18001 HSE performance goals.
  • Works with communication colleagues in the implementation of community engagement initiatives.
  • Project management -
  • Contributes to and/or plans and executes HSE, Sustainability and CR related projects. Develops and reports on project objectives. Where necessary, manages project resources such as manpower, financials and other relevant factors.
  • Governance and organization -
  • May have additional accountability and responsibility as an LBU HSE Manager to assist the country, regional and global HSE Managers to maintain competent functional country/LBU support and shared services. Deliver training, audit and key risk programs to the Divisions and Business Units throughout the constituent countries in alignment with the regional plan and ensure that all ABB LBU entities in those countries operate in compliance with the relevant legal obligations, as well as ABB Group standards. Ensure each LBU has a properly organised structure and competent resources for HSE, in facilities and projects.
  • People leadership and development -
  • Ensures that the area of responsibility is appropriately organized, staffed, skilled and directed. Guides, motivates and develops direct/indirect subordinates within HR policies.
Your background
  • Professional qualification in HSE
  • ESSENTIAL:
  • • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Degree in HSE Management, Environmental Diploma IEMA or equivalent
  • • 12+ years industry experience as an HSE professional, including at least 5 years in a lead role in Oil and gas industry.
  • • Fluent spoken and written English for Communication within the HUB.
  • • Independent, self-motivated leader with a passion for HSE work.
  • PREFERRED:
  • • Chartered Member of IOSH Preferred
  • • Associate Member of IEMA Preferred (or equivalent)
  • • Working experience in an organization utilizing behaviour-based safety approaches preferred.
  • • Cultural leadership attitude to drive virtual, cross-country teams with an international mindset.
  • • Demonstrated experience of leading and developing a team or teams of employees in a matrix organization
  • • Experience in managing large and complex projects, with integration of automation and electrical part, field instrumentation and erection.
  • • Ability to travel as required (30-40%)
