Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Organic Chemistry
Position as postdoctoral research fellow available at University of Oslo – Department of Chemistry
The fellowship period is 2 years. Within the framework of the position duties may be assigned. Starting date is negotiable, 01.07.2012 at the earliest. No one can be appointed for more than one specified period at the same institution.
Job description/ Project description:The position is part of the project "Advanced synthetic organic chemistry directed towards bioactive natural products", a Research Institution-based Strategic Project (ISP) in chemistry financed by the Norwegian Reseach Council. The focus mainly on compounds with terpenoid or partially terpenoid, structure. These present numerous challenges with respect to development of selective and efficient synthetic routes. Compounds with potential as anticancer or antimicrobial drugs leads are prioritized because of the desperate need for new drugs to treat several types of cancers and infectious diseases. Bioactivities will be examined in collaboration with external partners.
Qualifications:The candidate must have a PhD or other corresponding education equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in organic chemistry. The selected candidate should be motivated, talented, and curiosity driven individual with a strong background in organic chemistry, especially with organic synthesis and chromatographic and spectroscopic methods for separation and structure elucidation of organic compounds.
The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines.
