Post-Doc or Researcher Position relating to Modelling and Analysis of Floating Wind Turbines (IVT-123/13) Tekst: Jobbnorge ID: 97895
The aim of this research position is to contribute to the development and application of numerical methods for integrated dynamic response analysis of floating wind turbine systems. The goal is to develop and validate both refined and simplified methods for conceptual design and detailed design, respectively.
The research will involve time-domain simulation of floating wind turbine systems for determining the load effects to verify survivability in extreme conditions and durability (with respect to fatigue or other degradation phenomena).
The focus might be on modelling and analysis of the rotor/drivetrain (mechanical vs hydraulic power transfer), floating structure (spar, semi-submersible or TLP) or mooring system. The application might be towards alternative designs of floating wind turbines for moderate water depths (in the range of 60-150m) or increased turbine size (e.g. 10 MW).
The research would also deal with comparison of numerical analyses and model tests of floating wind turbine systems which our research group is involved in.
The results of this study are expected to contribute to the development of design guidelines and codes for such facilities.
General informationThe research work takes place in an international research environment at CeSOS (
http://www.cesos.ntnu.no/) in the Department of Marine Technology at the Marine Technology Centre in Trondheim, where more than 20 researchers and PhD candidates carry out research within the area of offshore wind turbines.
Cooperation with other personnel involved in NOWITECH (
http://www.sintef.no/projectweb/nowitech/), which is a centre for offshore wind technology at SINTEF/NTNU, as well as the new centre AMOS (
http://www.ntnu.edu/amos), is expected.
CeSOS is also involved in several EU research projects in the area of offshore wind turbines, such as MARE-WINT, which involves several universities, research institutes and industry partners (
http://www.marewint.eu/).
Qualifications: Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent research experience and otherwise fulfil the requirements given for the position. A suitable background would be marine technology, ocean engineering, mechanical engineering, or wind engineering, especially within disciplines such as structural dynamics, hydro- and aero-dynamics, automatic control, and wind turbine analysis.
