A PhD Research Fellow preferably with experience with large animal research is needed in the Artificial Pancreas Trondheim (APT) research group.
The APT research groupThe Artificial Pancreas Trondheim (APT) research group (
http://www.apt-norway.com/) was formally established during spring 2013. It is in part based on research on glucose sensors and related topic that has been performed at our university and hospital for nearly a decade. The APT research group now holds expertise in medicine (endocrinology, pharmacology and anesthesia), medical cybernetics, biosensor technology and optical spectroscopy.
The APT research group explores the possibility of combining continuous intraperitoneal (IP) glucose sensing and IP insulin delivery in a robust closed-loop control device (artificial pancreas). This PhD project is a subproject within the overall APT research agenda. The overall APT aim is to establish a robust artificial pancreas to be used by patients with diabetes. The focus will be on glucose dynamics in the peritoneal lining and peritoneal fluid both in the steady state and in particular the dynamics during rapidly changing glucose levels. The majority of the experimental work will be carried out in the large animal research facility. Training and certification for such work will be given as part of the PhD work if necessary.
By January 2015 there is one Postdoc position and three full time PhD positions included in the project in addition to this announcement PhD position. Recently also a Postdoc in endocrinology has joined the project part time.
