Primary Metal Commercial Technology supports and advices the Hydro business units on issues related both to casthouse production, casthouse products and customer support in addition to developing new casthouse technologies and products. We are organized in three main groups; laboratories with locations in Sunndalsøra, Karmøy and Holland (MI, USA); R&D projects with location in Sunndalsøra and Casthouse Support with employees located at main production sites.
The R&D projects department has about 20 researchers, working on alloy, process and technology development. Projects are carried out in close cooperation with our plants, market organization and customers. Our overall target is to improve efficiency in our manufacturing processes, ensure that we produce superior quality products and develop innovative new aluminium alloys/solutions together with our market organization and customers.
To further strengthen the the organization we are currently looking for two research scientists located at Sunndalsøra Norway:
- In the PFA (Primary Foundry Alloys) team we are looking for a candidate with background in material science, chemistry or physics.
- We are also looking for a candidate with background and interest in mathematical modelling, numerical simulations and/or statistics to strengthen our capability in this field.
Area of Responsibility
The area of responsibility will differ some between the positions:
- Run R&D projects on alloy/product/process development.
- Support casthouses, customer technical support and sales organisations in Hydro.
- Handle customer interaction in cooperation with the market team.
- Involved in customer technical service.
- Cooperation with universities and external research organizations.
- Document and communicate results
Qualifications
- PhD or Master of Science (MSc) degree or similar in materials science, chemistry, physics, applied mathematics or other relevant areas.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- A curious mindset with a keen interest in new technical solutions.
- Structured and systematic work habits.
- Fluency in English and willingness to learn Norwegian.
Additional Information
Some travelling is a natural part of the position. The first position reports to Team Leader Primary Foundry Alloys, while the second reports to Head of Technology.
