The Next Generation Accountant Program was created by National Oilwell Varco`s controller organization to provide a pipeline of skilled, versatile and experienced senior accountants to fill General Ledger (GL) accountant positions as they come open at NOV businesses. The program is designed to give high-potential new college and university graduates rigorous real-world accounting experience in a wide variety of businesses.
The program runs three years, with the goal of participants moving into senior accounting or finance roles during months 19 - 36. During the program, participants will be assigned to Internal Audit projects during mid-quarter months and to GL Controllers during each quarter close. It will be challenging, interesting and professionally very rewarding.
Travel, both domestic and international, will range from 25% to 60 % with individual trips lasting up to 5 weeks.
When assigned to Internal Audit Projects during mid-quarter months, the participants will join experienced audit teams on a wide range of projects at NOV businesses worldwide. These projects could include operational audits, compliance audits, financial audits, fraud investigations, and SOX internal controls audits. Projects will be assigned to give a maximum range of relevant NOV experience.
When assigned to a general ledger, participants will work through every aspect of a quarter or year-end ledger closing. The participants will be working as a team with their assigned business unit operation and controller groups and will experience the intense time/performance pressures common in closing books on a quarterly basis. The closing assignments will be at a variety of NOV GLs, and will include assignments at Corporate to work through the NOV consolidation and SEC reporting process. The assignments at Corporate will also help the Next Gen Accountant to understand the complexity of NOV`s consolidation of over 450 ledgers, with data received from over 55 countries in 40 foreign currencies.
