Job description
Applications are invited for a 2 year and 8 months position as Postdoctoral Fellow in neuroscience to be based at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (IMB), University of Oslo.
More about the position
The position is linked to a project on unraveling the molecular mechanisms of glutamine transporters and their functional roles in brain physiology by using state-of-the-art imaging and electrophysiology.
We are a consortium consisting of basic scientists and clinicians with complementary and cross-diciplinary expertise on brain function. The Principal Investigators (PIs) involved are: Farrukh A. Chaudhry (http://bit.ly/2mWClTM), Hua Hu (http://bit.ly/2z1oSQx), Kaja Kristine Selmer (http://bit.ly/2C4u3yW), Koen G. A. The candidate will be part of the Chaudhry group, but she/he will interact and work together with the others Pls as well.
The candidate is expected to establish and run a set up for simultaneous state-of-the-art imaging and electrophysiological investigations for this project. It involves characterization of the phenotype of genetically modified mice with focus on perturbed neurotransmitter synthesis and synaptic plasticity.
The candidate will also work with ratiometric analyses and two-electrode voltage clamp (TEVC) electrophysiology on Xenopus laevis oocytes.
The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.
Qualification requirements
- Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian PhD doctoral, strong academic background and with practical experience in characterizing rodents.
- It requires prior experience in patch-clamp electrophysiology and time-lapse studies.
- It preferably requires experience in radiometric analyses and TEVC electrophysiology.
- It preferably requires experience in biochemistry and molecular biology.
- It requires motivation to contribute to a strong cooperation between the groups involved.
- Good knowledge of spoken and written English is required.
Personal skills
- Individual suitability for the project
- Good cooperation skills
