Knowledge development in a changing world - Science and technology towards 2030.
Job description / Project description / Development plan:
The postdoctoral fellowship is connected to the Solar-Stellar research group at the Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics (ITA) at the University of Oslo. The Solar-Stellar group at ITA is presently led by Prof. Mats Carlsson, who is also the leader of the Rosseland Centre for Solar Physics (RoCS). The group has an internationally leading competence in radiative transfer and radiative hydrodynamics. The group makes extensive use of local and national High-Performance Computing facilities.
ESGC: The two-year postdoctoral fellowship is associated with the project "ESGC: Tracing the Impact of Evolved Stars on the Galactic Chemical Enrichment," funded by the Research Council of Norway and led by Maryam Saberi as the principal investigator. The primary objectives of the project encompass quantifying the contribution of evolved stars to the Galactic Fluorine budget and understanding the influence of internal UV radiation on the chemistry of the outflow surrounding Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) stars. These goals will be achieved through the utilization of high-spectral and/or -spatial observations in the mm/sub-mm, IR, and UV bands, employing observational facilities such as ALMA, VLT, JWST, and HST. Additionally, radiative transfer (RT) modeling and updated chemical models will be employed. The successful candidate will actively participate in both observations and simulations, possessing proficiency in working with multi-wavelength observations, particularly focusing on (sub)mm and radio facilities such as ALMA, APEX, and IRAM. Further details regarding the project can be accessed
The main purpose of a postdoctoral fellowship is to provide the candidates with enhanced skills to pursue a scientific top position within or beyond academia. To promote a strategic career path, all postdoctoral research fellows are required to submit a no later than one month after commencement of the postdoctoral period.
It is expected that the successful candidate will be able to complete the project in the course of the period of employment.
